For 3 days this week, it snowed steadily in the Moosehead Lake Region. For those of us that welcome winter weather enthusiasts (Northeast Guide Service), it was a pleasant surprise to have this much snow, especially the week before Christmas. The snow fell in the western Mountains to northern Maine and Greenville, is in the middle of it all! We have over a foot of snow on the ground and there is another storm planned for this coming weekend. For those of us that enjoy Maine snowmobiling, snow shoeing, and x country skiing, this much snow is an early Christmas present for us!
Before we know it the groomers will be out making trails for snowmobilers to enjoy. Rockwood and Jackman have already been out panning the snow. Greenville ITS is planning on getting out this weekend.
I'm optimistic that this is a good sign for what is in store for a Maine winter this coming year. Last winter was tough. With little snow and unseasonably warm temps throughout New England, people were thinking spring time thoughts, rather than making the trek to Maine to get out and experience the snow we did have. Not this year, though! We have already had a father and his son come up from Connecticut to break in their new sleds and be some of the first people out this winter season.
So, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow and come on up to visit us in the Moosehead Lake Region this winter to play in the snow! Have a Merry Christmas.
